Proud Crow Warrior

The first Thanksgiving was allegedly in 1621, Plymouth Plantation between Pilgrims and Indians as a gesture of good taste based on the bountiful harvest that had been tilled. There was no set date at this point but sporadic days of feasts over won battles and of course, a bountiful harvest would transpire.
As legend would have folk believe we came together on the last Thursday of every November with family, food, conversation and thanks courtesy of George Washington in 1789, 12 years after the 13 colonies had celebrated. Thanksgiving is not a bad concept however; its premise in 1621 was. Everyone knows that the Indians were forced off their land by the Pilgrims after this dinner!  “No!” I am not attempting to send negative energy into the “spirit” of Thanksgiving as I know it. As you know it, yet there has to be a remembrance of the Wampanoag tribe that had formed an alliance only to be counted second class citizens to their own land. “Geez, that’s a horse pill!”

Today, I will be with my family on Staten Island. We will cook, (I’m not doing a lot) talk, play with the kids, discuss life, have some wine, maybe a beer, agree, disagree and the sorts. Then we will pray and eat as one. “I’ll think of the Wampanoag Indians and there families; how proud these people were living off the fat of the land with their love one’s and prayers encircling them. These were spiritual beings and I know that what occurred to a people had a profound and unnerving effect to say the least, but left behind is the “spirit” in which they gathered in 1621 and before on the Plymouth Plantation; it is in the same spirit that I know and gather with my family; the "spirit" of "Thanks and harvest time!"

Blessed Thanksgiving!

wOOsa!
